Fire resistance of lightweight concrete structures
In buildings to ensure its stability in case of fire light weight concrete can be successfully used and paper describes work which has been performed on both light weight aggregate and aerated concretes; tests have shown superior performance of these materials as compared with dense concrete on account of their better thermal insulation and lack of susceptibility to spalling at high temperatures; however, existing data are not sufficiently comprehensive for light weight concrete to be specified for all types of structural elements in codes of practice.
