A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Tests to establish economic balance between size of tunnel and friction losses in lined and unlined tunnels serving as intakes and tail-races of hydroelectric power plants; tunnels with uniform cross sectional area and shape, as well as roughness of internal rock surfaces were selected for testing; calculations for proper and economic design of cross section; use of concrete lining extending throughout reinforced portion instead of separate arches.
