Construction features of new steam power plant in Memphis, Tenn, which will have 812,500 kw output; exterior walls of main structure, which is below grade are constructed as reinforced concrete counterfort retaining walls; 270×572 ft foundation slab is supported on piles; cooling water for plant's condensers will travel 2 mi through tunnels, manifolds and open canal; six 1250 hp pumps will circulate water; seal wells prevent loss of siphon during low level of Mississippi River.
