A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Construction of large power station on low bearing soil dictated use of variety of foundations; open end pipe piles of 18 in. diam and 130 ft average length were driven, by sinking 24 in. pipe about 70 ft long into which long pile was set, and piles filled with concrete to provide foundation for boiler house, turbine pedestal and turbine room; other pile types were used, including cast-in-place concrete, composite, wood, and closed end pipe piles; some structures supported on bell caissons.
