In view of experience of way in which roof fires spread, Committee of Wartime Building of British Home Security Ministry designed four devices in shape of fire stops to delay spread of fire along timber roofs and to provide rallying points for fire fighters where active measures could be particularly effective; tests were made of four devices on two roofs, both pitched, one covered with slate and other with one ply of mineral surfaced felt; results discussed.
