Study of decay of mine timber
As results of Part I (Report Investigation n 3544 Jan 1941) were inconclusive, study was continued; principal objectives were to determine effect of rock dusting upon decay of mine timber, to compare extent of decay of timbers in two mines in which underground conditions are similar, and to determine loss in strength of timbers after exposure to mine atmosphere; studies were carried on in Crucible mine and in adjacent Isabella mine of Weirton Coal Co.
