Strength and resistance to corrosion of ties for cavity walls
Cavity wall is form of hollow masonry wall construction widely used in Great Britain, consisting of two parallel tiers of unit masonry separated by continuous cavity about 2 in. wide; tiers are joined by ties, consisting of bent steel rods or wires; resistance to axial loads of ties was determined by testing steel and cement asbestos ties when embedded at ends in masonry.
