Buckling of elastically restrained columns
Problem of increasing buckling load of 114-ft long reinforced concrete column by introducing various elastic restraints is studied; general expressions are derived and graphs are presented applicable to any elastic column covering full range of variation of parameters; effect of weight of column in reduction of critical load is shown to be substantial depending on conditions of end support; general method is presented to account for this effect; graphs are also presented to facilitate determination of net critical load; two examples are examined and illustrated to show application of method.
