A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Several solutions of city center planning as recently applied to Birmingham, Harlow, Basildove, and Stevenage, and to new post-war cities such as Cumberland, Bletchley and Coventry are shown; common features of these new city centers are -- total or partial elimination of vehicular traffic, covered, air conditioned shopping centers, and large planted and architecturally decorated open spaces restricted to pedestrians.
