Skanska's slipformed cement plant
Plant at Slite, Gotland, employed slipforming for five major structures and 17 conveyor piers; rectangular pit, excavated in quarry floor, forms base and walls of raw materials stockpile structure, 40×100 m, is roofed over with corrugated sheet steel supported on nine arched rib beams of reinforced concrete, with 12 m long concrete purlins; methods, based on experience, adopted for fast, labor-saving construction and very high standards, where concrete elements had closer tolerances than required for steel; kiln capacity is 800 tpd but can increase to 1000 tons; data on Sweden's dry-mix cement industry.
