After two decades of service glulam timbers show good performance
Report evaluates 12 laminated bridge installations ranging in service from 6 to 20 yr; laminated timbers were treated with creosote, creosote-petroleum oil mixture, or pentachlorophenol in heavy oil after gluing; timbers glued from wood treated with waterborne preservative and in one case from creosote-treated wood were also included in study; timbers treated with oilborne preservatives are generally in excellent condition with very little gluejoint separation or checking; timbers in one bridge that were glued from wood treated with waterborne preservative, however, show appreciable amount of both checking and joint separation on surfaces of members.
