Design of suspension bridges for aerodynamic stability
Low velocity wind tunnel especially designed for testing of section models of suspension bridges to investigate aerodynamic stability of design and develop corrections is described; it has 6-sq ft nozzle which can be rotated in vertical plane to produce any desired vertical angularity of wind; tests must be made at low wind velocity because velocity scale is equal to square root of linear scale which is usually 1 to 50; section model is designed to reproduce to proper scale frequency of critical mode of oscillation as determined by calculations for particular bridge.
