Centring for huge bridge abutments
Zdakov bridge in Czechoslovakia, nearing completion, spans lake formed by Orlik Dam on River Vltava and is more than 500 m long; its main part consists of steel arch mounted on two concrete piers approximately 380 m apart; hollow two-hinged plate arch rests on two reinforced concrete cantilevers projecting 24.8 m beyond center line of bridge piers; construction of cantilevers is described.
