Montreal Hosts Double Bridge Spectacular in St.Lawrence
Design and construction of box-girder structures that will connect two islands that comprise 1967 World's Fair (Expo) site with Island of Montreal; from MacKay Pier orthotropic plate girder bridge will run 2265 ft to St. Helen's Island; it consists of two 345-ft end spans and three central spans of 525 ft each made up of single trapezoidal girder continuous over four concrete piers; from St. Helen's, 688-ft stayed girder bridge will cross to Ile Notre Dame; this composite structure consists of two simple spans suspended by cables from top of central concrete tower; pair of longitudinal box girders with floor beams between them will carry concrete deck.
