Some aspects of economics of continuous prestressed concrete bridge girders
Method and computer program for elastic design of continuous prestressed girder bridges was developed in Concrete Structures and Technology section of Civil Engineering Dept of Imperial College and at University of London Computer Unit; results obtained from design of over hundred bridges using this program and effects on total costs for 3-span bridges of fixed overall length of varying span ratio, relative span stiffness and relative unit costs of materials; it was found for design method employed that span ratio of 0.300 gave `least' cost solution over wide range of other parameters.
