Design and techniques used in construction of Columbia River Bridge at Astoria, Ore, are described; features are special forms and form handling equipment, prestressed piers and precast pier caps; precast piers weighing 830 tons were transported several miles, and huge four-legged barges lifted them into place; system of deck forms makes it possible to pour 320 ft of bridge deck in one day while another 320 ft of forms can be stripped and set.
