Buckling of aluminum columns, plates and beams
Formulas are presented for determining inelastic buckling strength of columns, plates in compression and in shear, I-beams and channel section beams, and rectangular beams; in each case, buckling formula is straight line that depends on yield strength, modulus of elasticity, and shape of stress-strain curve; buckling formulas for various types of members are found to be in good agreement with results of tests and analytical studies; experimental results included are confined to aluminum; analytical considerations indicate proposed formulas may be applicable to other materials with similar stress-strain characteristics.
