Sweden's Ulto system of high-strength, reinforced concrete, but not prestressed, beams can span more than 100 ft; system claims speedy erection, interchangeability of parts and cleanness of lines; Ulto beam is tapered T that fits and locks into notches cast across tops of system's columns; beam-to-column lock is simple steel ball-and-socket joint; columns with their fork-like tops can be cast with brackets and drain pipes for roof drainage; less expensive than double-flanged, prestressed beams, they have been used for small bridges and large one-story buildings.
