Engineered construction at Houston intercontinental airport
Construction of airport some 15 mi north of central business district is described; when opened, early in 1967, airport will have two nonintersecting runways, each having two parallel taxiways, and aprons sufficient to serve initial 35-gate positions connected to two terminals; paper deals with sub-grade, sub-base, paving and drainage features; runways are 8000 and 9400 ft long; airfield pavements are designed for largest commercial aircraft, ranging somewhere between 350,000 to 400,000 lb, and are designed to accommodate planned supersonic transports with lesser factor of safety.
