Describes scheme of improvement of harbor of Staithes, lying on coast of Yorkshire about 10 mi. north of Whitby, England, which consisted broadly of construction in mass-concrete of two breakwaters (each 400 ft. long) and an intercepting wall (100 ft. long), blasting of a boat channel, and removal of a shoal of boulders which lay just outside new harbor entrance.
