Dam solves water problem for 11 Texas cities
U S Bureau of Reclamation is building Sanford Dam on Canadian River as water supply project for 11 cities in Texas Panhandle; project includes 14.8 million cu yd rolled-fill embankment, spillway and flood-control outlet works, 1370 ft combination diversion and water supply tunnel, 322 mi of reinforced concrete pipe line up to 96 in. diam, 13 pumping plants and 2 500-acre-ft regulating pools; tunneling, design features, diversion channel, earthmoving spreads, and maintenance, are described.
