Extra-tall climbing cranes stand on custom-built masts
Two unique specially-built tower cranes are being used in construction of CBS 38-story reinforced concrete building in New York, NY; cranes are 140-ft high with hook level of 132 ft, and 110-ft tall with hook at 102 ft, both with 118 ft booms and 34 ft counterbooms; special section at bottom of mast uses 5×5 in. welded box members and pipe bracing to height of 60 ft; conventional angle mast is used above; guy system consists of four 1 3/4-in. diam wire ropes connected to anchors in building's base slab.
