Suspension bridge uses welded components
San Pedro-Terminal Island Bridge over Los Angeles Harbor is 6010 ft long and includes main span of 1500 ft, sidespans of 506.5 ft, and approach structures totaling 3497 ft; unusual design, fabrication and construction features include welded suspension towers, shop welding of all major structural members including piles, pile-supported towers, anchorages and cable bents, and erection of center span floor systems with no corresponding erection of backspan units.
