A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Road and bridge projects under construction in highly industrialized area of West Germany; Pariser Strasse elevated road features single columns of less than 4 ft diam every 70 ft supporting 40 ft wide roadway, and requiring torsional restraint at only 350 ft intervals; widespread use of models at all stages from planning to completion was typical of all projects; interesting construction methods of 34-span Krahnenberg Bridge on piers up to 85 ft high, and of Bendorf Bridge with 300 ft cantilevered out from river piers are described in detail.
