New post-tensioning system
New German system of prestressing used in bridge construction successfully combines advantages of wire and bar methods; high tensile wires of circular or oval, ribbed cross section, having ultimate strength of 95 to 108 tons/sq in., are used to form cables; unusual feature is that wire is supplied in specially wound coils, 6 to 8 ft in diam; use of single anchor bolt for tensioning has advantage that all wires of cable are stressed simultaneously.
