Influence of transverse prestress on strength of prestressed concrete bridge slabs
Results of tests on 8 square prestressed concrete slabs having unbonded wires are reported; ratio of transverse to longitudinal prestress (eta) was varied between 0 and 100%; system of wheel loads was used and, for upper range of values of eta, ultimate loads were considerably in excess of those predicted by use of yield-line theory; if suitable design criterion were adopted, part of this increased load capacity could be utilized.
