Free cantilever method of constructing prestressed concrete bridges
Method of free cantilevering of concrete bridge decks, eliminating necessity of supporting them from river bed during construction is described; method is characterized by progressive horizontal advances of bridge deck from 2 abutments and from both sides of piers; each new section is pressed tightly against already completed deck by means of prestressing bars; details of several important long-span bridges built in Germany; method offers distinct advantage for construction of very high viaducts.
