Casting yard features new rigs
Peter Kiewit Sons' Co, Richmond, Calif, built modern and efficient reinforced concrete casting plant to cast own bridge units for new San Mateo-Hayward bridge; center of operation is 70×3000 ft "casting line"; pile operations; unique slip-form rig, only known one of its kind, consists of 35-ft long outside forming machine and 105-ft inside mandrel for hollow center; forming machine has 2 1/2 cu yd hopper and concrete is supplied by one of gantries; cap and deck operations; concrete plant; loading operations.
