Laboratory tests of full-scale pony truss bridge -- 1. Tests with laminated timber deck
Tests carried out in laboratory on 49 ft span pony truss bridge having laminated timber deck showed that load distribution between stringers was in reasonable accordance with theoretical values obtained by harmonic analysis; load distribution was less favorable when laminations were placed at 45° to stringers; load of 50 kips on pad 16 in. in diameter was required to produce local failure of diagonal 6 in. laminated deck; it is suggested that for design purposes value of "K" equal to 4.5 may be used in design of interior stringers.
