Discussion of tests made on pads consisting of alternate 5 mm rubber layers and 2 mm thick steel plates encased on all sides in rubber; it was found that high shear stresses should be avoided because neoprene's failure load decreases at aging, and large initial deformations can lead to appearance of surface cracks; reliability of elasticity moduli is doubtful as it varies with load size and Shore hardness.
