All-steel abutments for highway bridges
Design features of 3 short-span bridges built in Michigan to illustrate combined use of steel H-piles and steel sheetpiling for abutments; supporting force near top of steel sheetpiling is provided by strutting action of superstructure beams on pile cap, which resists any horizontal movement at tops of sheetpiles.
