Factors affecting bond strength and resistance to moisture penetration of brick masonry
Results of tests on small panels of brick masonry show influence of properties of bricks and mortars on leakage and bond strength, and also effects of several other factors that are governed by technique used by bricklayer; latter include consistency of mortar when used, time interval between spreading mortar bed and laying brick in it, and extent to which brick is tapped into mortar; effects of tooling of mortar joints and varying thickness of mortar joints are also considered.
