Wave action and breakwater location, superior entry, duluthsuperior harbor, superior, wisconsin -- Hydraulic model investigation
How 1:150-scale model of Superior Entry and harbor basin was used to determine optimum location and length of breakwater necessary to provide required wave protection for ships berthed at Great Northern Ry ore docks, and to satisfy navigation requirements of ships entering and leaving harbor through Superior Entry; results indicated that single, detached breakwater 900 ft long would provide desired degree of protection; other plans satisfying selected criteria were also developed, but involved breakwater which would be longer or located in deeper water.
