High-density concrete made with hydrous-iron aggregates
Physical properties tested under standard conditions and after heating at temperatures of 85, 200, and 350 C; concrete has density of 218 lb per cu ft and fixed water content of about 4.3% at 85 C, which makes it desirable material for biological shields around atomic power reactors; computed values of attenuation lengths included for fast neutrons and gamma radiation. See also Engineering Index 1957 p 762 and 1958 p 828.
