Well-placed dynamite neatly drops three buildings
Blasting of three 8-story buildings in Washington, DC, without any damage to State Department building across street; structures were of reinforced concrete, faced with brick and tile, supported on columns in basement; column drilled for two charges to achieve "hinge" effect rather than complete cut; firing in delays held down concussion and vibrations; recorded vibrations were many times below that necessary to cause damage even to old prestressed plaster.
