Taxiway is concrete laboratory
5245 ft long experimental taxiway T-3, as part of $7-million upgrading of Biggs Air Force Base near El Paso, Tex, is built in sections of three types of concrete pavement: conventional 24 in. thick, reinforced 19 in. thick, and prestressed only 9 in. thick; slabs of prestressed concrete are placed in three 500 ft sections; in each section 223 rigid transverse conduits support 13 flexible 12-wire tendons that are placed longitudinally; concreting and post tensioning described.
