Closed-circuit wind tunnel for speeds from Zero to Mach 2.8
8-ft by 8-ft tunnel commissioned at Royal Aircraft Establishment, Bedford, permits control surfaces and other details to be properly represented on complete models of up to 6 ft span; believed to be largest pressure vessel in Europe, it is of circular cross section varying in diam from 20 ft at compressor inlet to 47 ft at tunnel cooler. See also article entitled R.A.E. Bedford, p 52-3 of same issue.
