Experiments on model piles with enlarged bases
Model experiments were made to provide information on bearing capacity of deep cylinder pile foundations with enlarged bases in London clay; models were of brass, had shaft diameter of 3/4 in. and both length of shaft and diameter of base were varied; load cell measured base reaction; results suggest that minimum penetration movement at ultimate bearing capacity is obtained with longest possible shaft and smallest diameter base.
