It is possible to make as good bricks from coal-mine schists as from schist specially quarried; not all coal-mine schists can be used for this purpose; best are those obtained from near coal; recommends that schist be crushed, pulverized, mixed to paste with water, and squirted by hydraulic press; bricks formed by compressing dry powder are unsatisfactory; firing of schist bricks; test data; applications include foundations, quay walls, bridge piles, tunnel linings, pavements, etc. See brief translated abstract in Colliery Eng., vol. 3, no. 32, Oct. 1926, p. 463.
