Corrosion of central heating pipes and air circulation pipes embedded in concrete
Cases of corrosion damage which sometimes occur in practice can usually be attributed to fact that mortar was too porous because its cement content was too low and its compaction was inadequate; admixture of calcium chloride to mortar or concrete and potential difference between reinforcement and pipes increase attack a little but are not primary causes of corrosion; when compaction of concrete under embedded pipes was not sufficiently thorough, resulting corrosion damage was extensive and deep; recommendations are made for embedding heating pipes in mortar or concrete.
