Vibration of steel joist-concrete slab floors
Research program at University of Kansas to study floor vibrations consisted of analytical and experimental work in field and laboratory; two floors were built in laboratory for control purposes; measurements were taken on 46 different floors in Kansas City area; exact method for computing natural frequency of floor systems was derived in which stiffness of slab perpendicular to joist could be taken into account; floor systems with appreciable stiffness perpendicular to joists had large natural frequency small amplitude, and no objectionable vibrations.
