Retaining oil in 1000-ton hydraulic press circuit and keeping rain water out of industrial building are but two of diverse applications of self-sealing fasteners; group comprises fasteners used to join one part to another and, when driven, prevent passage of fluids from one side of assembly to other at point of fastening; they can be one-piece or multicomponent devices; factors in selection and installation, and costs are discussed; summary of representative types of self-sealing fasteners, their sizes and head forms, materials employed, their characteristics and applications is presented.
