Snap-through buckling of framed triangulated domes
Elastic stability problems that develop when concentrated load is applied to frictionless joint of framed triangulated dome were studied; they were found to be of two types -- bar stability problems, and joint stability problems; solutions to first are given by Euler critical load; latter were investigated by developing general expression for axial deformation of any component member and by taking vanishing of first order variation of total potential of system as criterion for equilibrium; force-radial displacement relationship at loaded joint was found to nonlinear and critical load was defined to be maximum force which system can support before loaded joint snaps-through; general theory is proposed.
