Settlement of embankment materials in earth and rockfill dams
Study is made of settlement occurring in compacted earth dams, rockfill dams, and combinations of these two types; this involves analysis of factors influencing compressibility of materials used in such dams; particular attention is paid to rockfill, both dumped and compacted, and records from large number of rockfill dams are analyzed and discussed in some detail; both settlement which occurs during construction and that occurring after completion are considered; some attention is also paid to differential settlement that occurs in dams with vertical cores and rockfill shoulders and effect this has on structure.
