Ultimate load capacity of arch dams
Mathematical programming is used to obtain lower bound of load carrying capacity of class of shells of material with nonlinear behavior; shells constitute idealization of plain-concrete arch dams; numerical values computed are compared with results obtained from field tests; agreement of theoretical and experimental values is fair; applicability of method to other shell structures such as roof shells and underground shelters is discussed.
