Surface diversion of stream flows during construction of dams in queensland
Control of flows during construction of seven dams for irrigation in Queensland, Australia, during past decade is described; dams have been concrete, earth and rock fill, and rock fill with concrete facing slabs; diversion and closure at Tinaroo Falls Dam, first constructed, is described; for diversion and storage of streams where minimum flow is frequently zero, cofferdam across stream has been adopted and use made of permanent concrete conduit or temporary diversion flume on one side of stream; for concrete dams, this has permitted virtually complete clean-up of foundations; costly tunnel diversion has proved to be unnecessary on these dams.
