Strength and strain characteristics of concrete under tensile stresses; concrete specimens 9×15 cm in cross section and 60 cm long were subjected to axial or eccentric tension; additional specimens were loaded in flexure; tests were carried out in testing machine allowing control of strain rate as well as strain distribution across specimens; concrete strains over gage length of 40 cm and local strains over gage length of 6 cm were recorded; concrete strength, age at testing, strain rate and curing conditions were major variables; results are summarized.
