Factors affecting durability of concrete surfaces
Laboratory research program on abrasion resistance of concrete surfaces, including development of impact-type abrasion test for testing of cored specimens, is described; test results show that slump, curing, and time of finishing are most important factors affecting abrasion resistance of concrete surfaces; concrete receiving application of monomolecular film to retard evaporation during finishing period showed increase in abrasion resistance; two-coat surface treatment of linseed oil, applied when concrete had partially dried, was found to increase abrasion resistance appreciably regardless of other variables.
