Direct tensile strength of concrete
Results of direct tension test of concrete, carried out on specimens of various composition, age and shape, were compared with tensile-strength test by indirect methods (flexural and splitting strength); results confirmed that it is not possible to establish generally valid conversion factors for relation between these strengths and that true tensile strength of concrete can be found only by direct method; discussion of practical utilization of test for direct tensile strength of concrete, using method developed by Technical University of Prague, Czechoslovakia, for control of quality of structures in which tensile strength of concrete is of decisive significance.
