Literature survey concerning causes of reinforcing steel corrosion in concrete; discussed are ability of reinforcing steel to passivate itself, importance of concrete formulation and application, and corrosion effects on steel in prestressed concrete structures; also noted is corrosion resistance of galvanized steel as reinforcing; brief discussion of some current research on this subject at University of California is presented; under heating " Fundamentals of Corrosion Mechanism", authors briefly outline causes of corrosion reaction.
